Pima and the Pearls of Rain

🔊 Listen to this story

High above the green hills, in a fluffy corner of the sky called Windy Hollow, lived a little cloud-sheep named Pima. She loved to collect raindrops in her woolly coat, watching them sparkle like tiny silver beads whenever the sun peeked through.

One morning, the other cloud-sheep gathered around her. "Pima, please shake your wool and let the raindrops fall," said old Tufo. "The valley below is thirsty." But Pima hugged her fluffy sides and said, "My raindrops are too pretty to give away!"

Days passed, and a small sparrow named Chiku flew all the way up to Windy Hollow, panting. "Please, Pima," she chirped, "the flowers are drooping and the pond is nearly dry. Even my nest tree is turning brown." Pima looked away, still not ready to share.

That evening, Pima peeked over the edge of her cloud and saw a single golden sunflower bending low, its petals curling from thirst. It reminded her of her own bright wool, and her heart felt suddenly heavy. With a happy little bounce, she shook herself all over, and hundreds of raindrops tumbled down like a silver waterfall.

The next morning, the valley was green and glowing, and Chiku sang the sweetest song just for her. Pima smiled, realizing that raindrops - like kindness - are only truly beautiful when they are shared. From that day on, she always saved a little rain for those who needed it most.
