Miso and the Lantern Light
🔊 Listen to this story
Deep in a hidden lagoon fringed with lily pads lived Miso, a small pink water creature with feathery gills that fluttered like tiny petals. Miso was shy and loved to float quietly, watching the stars twinkle on the water at night.
One evening, a tired firefly named Tez landed on a lily pad near Miso, his light flickering weakly. "I got lost chasing the moon," Tez said. Miso gently nudged the lily pad closer to shore so Tez could rest, and the two became fast friends.
But as the days passed, Miso noticed the lagoon water growing lower and the lily pads drooping sadly. A pile of fallen leaves and twigs was blocking the little stream that fed the lagoon, hidden deep in the dark reeds where Miso was too afraid to swim alone.
"I can light the way!" said Tez, glowing bright as a tiny lantern. Together they swam into the shadowy reeds, Tez lighting every corner while Miso pushed the leaves and twigs aside with her nose. Slowly, fresh water trickled through, filling the lagoon until every lily pad stood tall again.
From that night on, Tez visited every evening, glowing softly above the water while Miso floated below, no longer afraid of the dark reeds. Together, they had learned that even the smallest friends, working side by side, could bring a whole lagoon back to life.
