Tara the Tortoise and the Race She Almost Skipped
🔊 Listen to this story
Tara the tortoise watched the rabbits zoom past her garden every morning. "I could never race them," she sighed. "I'm much too slow."
Her friend Momo the mouse squeaked, "The race isn't about who finishes first, Tara. It's about who doesn't give up."
On the day of the Meadow Race, Tara laced up her tiny shoes and joined the line, even though her knees wobbled with nerves.
She walked, step by careful step, long after the rabbits had crossed the finish line. But every animal in the meadow cheered loudest for her.
"You didn't win first place," said Momo, "but you finished what you started. That's the real prize."
